As a 3D artist working in game production, I often ran into the same issue: messy, curved UVs on tubes, cables, and strip-like meshes.
Manually straightening them in Maya takes time — and never feels perfect.
So I decided to build a tool for it.
I created a Maya plugin that can turn curved UV shells into clean, rectangular grids in just a few clicks.
Key features:
• Planar map + unitize workflow
• Efficient edge sewing
• Directional unfold (U / V)
• UV straightening with adjustable angle
It’s designed to fit directly into a production workflow and reduce repetitive UV cleanup work.
This small tool has already saved me a lot of time, and I’m preparing to release it soon.
If you're working in game art or technical art, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
